Keeping the Creativity at Home with MAGnificent Saturdays - June 6, 2020

Today's MAGnificent Saturdays art activity for you to do at home:

Abstract Still Life

Today you will be creating a still life using objects you find in your home. Search for items with unique lines, fun textures and fabulous forms. Plants, toys, fruit, kitchen utensils. The list is endless! How you decide to draw these items is up to you. You can go as realistic or as abstract as you feel like.

Though this activity focuses on pastels feel free to use pen, pencil, pencil crayons, paint, markers and/or even crayons! It doesn’t have to be made with pastels.

Don't forget to tag us on Facebook, Twitter @RedDeerMuseum or Instagram @rdmag #MAGsatathome with your creations! We'd love to see them.

You can download the instructions here.

What You Need: Watercolour Paper, Pencil, Black Paper and Oil Pastels.

Step 1: PENCIL! Map out your drawing in pencil, lightly. Using straight and curved lines you can decide where your still life will sit on the page

Step 2: SHAPES! draw over your pencil lines with oil pastels using more detailed lines and accuracy. Think about using basic shapes and simple colors!!

Step 3: SHADOWS! fill in colour; pay attention to shadows and highlights both as simple shapes.

Step 4: BACKGROUND! Add a background if you want, also work on adding more detail like white pastel for a sharp highlight.
