With Mother's Day just around the corner, we wanted to share an artwork that celebrates the special connection between mother and child.

This Week's Work is: 

Jane Ash Poitras, Mother and Child, n.d., mixed media on canvas, Gift of the Waskasoo Museum Foundation and the Kathleen Anderson swallow Bequest, 2003.101.1

This mixed media work of a mother and child is by acclaimed Alberta Cree artist Jane Ash Poitras. This work, seen here in our collections storage, was last exhibited in our Kinship exhibition in 2019. The exhibition focused on family and community ties and this pieces is such a great example of the bond between parent and child.
