Melanie Berndt is the Coordinator of Collections Management at the Red Deer MAG. Since 2014 one of her main roles at the museum has been reorganizing our extensive artefact Collection. Melanie has visited museums across Canada to study their use of the ReOrg Methodology formulated by ICCROM (International Centre for the Study of the Preservation of Cultural Property) and CCI (Canadian Conservation Institute). The technique encourages critical collecting and creative but safe arrangement methods to maximize storage space. Small “c” collections challenge the ReOrg methodology within Museum storage spaces but the techniques still be applied successfully to the personal collector. Learn what distinguishes a big “C” or museum collection from a small “c” personal collection and tips and tricks to long-term preservation of your home treasures.
