The Writing on the Wall: Works of Dr. Joane Cardinal-Schubert, RCA is an examination of this artist’s work that will be installed in the Red Deer Museum + Art Gallery. The exhibition reflects the cyclical nature of Joane Cardinal-Schubert’s (1942-2009) work, including pivotal pieces in painting, drawing, printmaking, collage, ceramic, and installation. The works are drawn from collections from across Canada including, the National Gallery of Canada, many private collections and the participation of the artist’s son and widower in recreating several of her installation pieces.
Joane Cardinal-Schubert was born and raised in Red Deer, AB. She was the 4th Albertan woman to be inducted into the Royal Canadian Academy of Art (1985). "Through her art and life, [she] honoured her identity as Kainai (Blackfoot), demonstrating her values of representing the Indigenous experience and history." - (quote source AFA)
