“What is the creative potential of emerging artists in central Alberta? Curatorial duo Erin Boake and Marnie Blair map the terrain of the current scene and unseen in Prairie Contemporary, an exhibition that presents a glimpse of the creative energy found in the region.  Ten artists, who use a range of materials and theoretical approaches, have been chosen to show recent and new work for this exhibition.  By providing professional exhibition space, Prairie Contemporary supports the development of the artistic practice of emerging artists in the Red Deer area.”...

Reel Movie Mondays launches Retro Film Series @ Carnival Theatres

Reel Movie Mondays launches Retro Film Series @ Carnival Theatres

Reel Movie Mondays program is ecstatic to be branching out and bring some classic movies back to the big screen!

We are excited to share with you the launch of our new RETRO MOVIE WEDNESDAYS series for the 2016/2017 year in addition to our regular Reel Movie Mondays series lineup!

On select Wednesday evenings this Fall 2016, we are bringing pre-1999 favourites to the big screen. This year our volunteer selection committee chose prominent Directors as our ‘theme’. You will see films by Martin Scorsese, Tim Burton, James Cameron, Roman Polanski and more for our inaugural year. Since this is our first year up and running we are screening films that have been popular and well known. As the seasons move forward we will be looking to bring lesser known and even older films into the fold.

Retro Movie Wednesdays is a partnership between the Red Deer Museum + Art Gallery and Carnival Cinemas.  All films will screen at 7pm on select Wednesday nights at Carnival Cinemas in Red Deer, AB. Visit reelmoviemondays.ca for more details and synopses of all films. All film tickets are final sale, no refunds or exchanges. At the door ticket sales on film nights, from 6-7pm in the lobby of Carnival Cinemas, are $15 each (no member/student rate or coupons).

Our volunteer film selection committee spent countless hours discussing potential films to bring in. Our criteria includes films from 1920s-1999, films with cinematography that would look amazing on the big screen, available on DCP format and films that haven’t been on the big screen recently, etc. Thank you to all of our volunteers for their work in narrowing down an initial list of close to 300 films to the 8 we will screen this year. During the Fall 2016 screenings we will run a “Viewer’s Choice” contest to select our last film for the Spring of 2017.

The retro film series launches on Wednesday, October 5th with Aliens – Directed by James Cameron | Rated M for Mature – Gruesome scenes not suitable for preteenagers, followed by Edward Scissorhands on October 19th - Directed by Tim Burton | Rated PG for infrequent violence and mild coarse language. On November 2nd, we keep the stylized filmmaking of Tim Burton with his take on Batman - Directed by Tim Burton | USA, 1989 | 123 minutes | Drama | English | PG, Warner Bros. Entertainment

All films are screened at Carnival Cinemas at 7:00 pm, 5402 – 47 St. Red Deer. For more information on the feature presentations please go to the Reel Movie Mondays website at www.reelmoviemondays.ca

Seating is limited so advanced tickets are recommended. Tickets can be purchased at the Red Deer Museum and Art Gallery by Cheque, Debit, Visa, M/C or by phone. Cash purchases only at the door.

Reel Movie Mondays and the Retro Film Series gratefully acknowledges our partnership with Carnival Cinemas of Red Deer, AB.
