Gift of Virginia Bordwell

Private Kendal Miller was the son of Thomas and Alice Ellis Miller of Red Deer. He was killed in action on June 25, 1917, at the age of 17 years, and is buried in the Vimy Memorial Cemetery in France. This Memorial Cross, also known as the Silver Cross, was presented to his mother.

A distant relative living in the USA contacted the MAG to ask if the museum would be interested in objects related to Kendal’s military service. Several photographs, his mother’s memorial cross, medals, and appreciation certificate from the City of Red Deer arrived in October 2013.

2014 is the 100th anniversary of the start of The First World War. An exhibit – “Let’s Go Boys” – will be on display beginning November 8th thru to February 8, 2015.
