Exhibits

Experience the beauty, the complexity, and the rich diversity.

At the MAG we are interested in the social history, art history and contemporary art practice of our community. In our exhibitions, collections and programs we strive to represent the diversity of Red Deer.

The MAG’s exhibition spaces include, Remarkable Red Deer: Stories from the Heart of the Parkland, and temporary galleries that feature short term exhibits about art, history and contemporary issues.

We’d love to hear from you!

The MAG loves a great idea and we would love to hear yours! We take art and history based submissions throughout the year, but will typically jury in the spring.

Our Gallery Space

Remarkable Red Deer (RRD), focuses on the stories from Red Deer’s past to present day. The Community Wall, found in the second gallery of RRD changes twice a year and is the space to highlight Red Deer’s contemporary stories. Smaller cases in the gallery change on a regular basis, allowing us to tell more stories and bring out artifacts from the collection.

The temporary galleries include our main galleries that hold travelling, in-house and collaborative exhibitions. These exhibition spaces have an exhibition change approximately 4-8 times a year based on our exhibition schedule. Smaller exhibitions take place in our main hallway and in our studio.

In planning for our exhibitions our goals are to:

  • Feature the art and artistic practice of Red Deer and area.
  • Work with the diverse members of our community to tell their story.
  • Bring engaging exhibitions on historic and contemporary issues and events to our community.
  • Incorporate the recommendations of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission into our exhibitions, programs and collections.
  • The MAG loves a great idea and we would love to hear from you. We take art and history-based submissions through-out the year, but will typically jury in the spring.

Artists and Curators are encouraged to submit exhibition proposals to the Red Deer Museum + Art Gallery (MAG) when there is a current call for submissions posted.

The jury meets once a year, in the 1st quarter of each year, to review submissions. This means there can be a 12-16 month waiting period for final response to exhibit proposals. The MAG books 3 years in advance for most exhibits.

If you have any questions about our exhibition program please contact the MAG Exhibitions Coordinator.
