Vintage Fashion Show

"In Between Charming and Romantic" was a smash!

We had a full house on First Friday, August 6th, 2010. The vintage fashion show, created and directed by our fabulous summer student Elsie Budwill, showcased outfits from the 1920s through 1950s. Each decade was introduced by a short film and then models paraded the clothing while our emcee described the pieces and gave historical background. The choices of clothing worn in each era were influenced by happenings in political movements (suffrage in the 20s, war in the 40s) and economics (depression of the 30s, boom of the 50s), while other pieces were just great for dancing. Afterwards attendees joined in reshreshments and browsed the opening of the AFA Glass 2009 exhibit. (As a model, I removed my stylish, modern specs, so I verbally polled the room and could feel the energy despite not being able to see the front row.) It seemed that the evening was enjoyed immensely. We hope to post pictures soon.

The museum is thankful for all the people who made this event a success. Black Knight Tuxedo lent tuxedos for our gentlemen. Central Alberta Theatre loaned us many of the outfits and accessories. Several people volunteered as models, stylists, photographer, master of ceremony, ushers, back stage support and  gave technical assistance. Addittional outfits were also lent by private individuals. We are grateful for your help!

Yours truly, Sarah Brodie

In 2010, the 1920s through 1950s would be charming to romantic.
