MAGsparks is an accessible and inclusive visual art program.

We work in a comfortable, well equipped space with a peaceful studio atmosphere.  Our program has an expressive arts focus: where little art experience can have high impact outcomes.

The program began in January 2010 to continue the work of the former artsparks project.

Participants of MAGsparks pursue a dynamic arts curriculum, working with professional artists in a variety of art classes and programs where they experience numerous art forms and experiment with different medias and techniques.

artsparks was a community arts program that connected people with developmental disabilities (PDD) living in Red Deer and surrounding areas to the Red Deer arts community.
It started in 2005, out of the Kerry Wood Nature Centre, as a way to offer arts programs that were fully accessible and inclusive for everyone.

artsparks grew into a two part program. The Red Deer Public Library coordinated the literary and performing arts programs and the visual arts classes were here at the Red Deer Museum + Art Gallery.

Throughout most of the year we run an Open Studio.  The Open Studio format allows participants to work in their preferred medium, with help from our professional artists. There are some limitations, for example, we don't work in clay or larger sculptural materials during that time. If you want to learn to draw, paint or work in simple printmaking techniques, we can facilitate those techniques thoroughly.

We will be starting our Spring & Summer program  on May 7.  A registration form is downloadable below, and includes all the activities, dates and costs.
